The Anti-Poverty Committee was in the news often between November 2006 and the summer of 2007 when i was photographing their activities. This radical group was comprised of people of all ages, many who lived in Vancouver's Downtown East Side (DTES). Their goal was to oppose the tide of economic development caused by the housing bubble and the 2010 winter Olympics. Outrageous rental costs and the transformation of the DTES from a collection of single resident occupancy hotel rooms towards a neighborhood filled with high-priced condominiums has created a housing crisis in the city.
